I'm did, I'm didn't. I did obey, I didn't. I'm hap-hap-hap-hap-happy all the time, I'm not.
Aloha family and friends,
I've learned on my mission that exact obedience to the commandments almost always brings instant blessings and true happiness. Everything seems to work out when your living in "the land of obey". Yesterday we had dinner with the Iokas, one of the Samoan families in our ward, we went to their house and their 17 year old son told us that they would not be able to feed us tonight so he gave us a $20 bill. We went to Panda. While I was saying the blessing on my food for some reason I prayed and asked God for opportunities to find people to teach while we were out and about that night. While we were eating a woman and her young son walked in, they saw us and waved but didn't say anything. After they had gotten their food and sat down, I stood up and went to refill my water cup. On my way back to our table I stopped at their table and started talking to them. She said that the missionaries used to come by a long time ago and that she knew one of the members of our ward and used to come to church with them. She even said she wanted to start coming back to church. She said that she had been busy renovating their home. I offered her some help working on her house and she gave us her address and phone number. It's so cool how the lord puts people in our path and blesses us with people to teach as we are obedient to the promptings of the spirit.
Happy Memorial day!!! The libraries were closed yesterday, that's why this is a day late. Did you guys go to the cemetery in Salt Lake? What Jobs are you currently working on? Who do you have working with you, or is just the two of you? Did you guys hear that Garry Coleman died?
I wanted to wish Audrey and Sydney a happy birhday! You've had a birthday shout hooray! We'd like to sing to you today! one year older and wiser too! Happy Birthday to you! Is Christian really going to be at Timpview when we get home??? That is ridiculous! Is Audrey turning 15 or 16? Is BYU's softball team still in the tournament? Are you guys doing any cool trips or vacations this summer or will it just be mostly a work summer? Our ward is going on a trip to Laie this weekend to watch the Joseph Smith movie at the visitors center and have a picnic at Hukilau beach. I wish we could go!!! It's been a whole year since I was back in Laie!
Mom, I just wanted to thank you again for the camera! It works so well and is so much easier than disposable cameras. All the other missionaries are jealous of it. I haven't even had time to figure out all of its features and things it can do. It has a cool rapid fire mode, and it can make an instant slide show of all your pictures with music and everything.
I did my second baptismal interview yesterday with a 10 year old Marshaleese kid, his dad had to translate my questions for him because he barely speaks any English.
Our district is made up of the 2 Pearl City wards, the new town first ward (sisters) and the Waipahu 3rd branch (the Marshaleese branch). Yes, Rob I do have to make up my own trainings every week and I wish I had more time and resources so I could make them more creative and fun.
On Sunday our stake President gave a talk on helping our children (or investigators) recognize the feelings of the spirit. He said when you are in a situation either while teaching an investigator or while spending time with your kids and you feel the spirit strongly, take that opportunity to pause, and help them understand that those are the feelings of the Holy Ghost. Mom, I remember when you used to do this when we were kids and I always used to think it was annoying, like, duh its the Holy Ghost. But I appreciate that now because if you never did that I may not have ever begun to realize that is what I was feeling was the Holy Ghost. Also, while I was in my new district leader training meeting our mission president talked to us about correcting people boldly when they break mission rules or do something wrong. He taught us that after the mistake was pointed out and the correction had been given to always let the person know that we loved them "lest he mistake thee to be his enemy" (D&C 121). I almost started to cry when my mind reflected on all the times dad had gotten mad at me growing up for doing something wrong. I used to run to my room and slam the door and get in my bed and even start to cry. But without fail I can always remember a loving father who would come in and apologies for yelling and tell me how much he loved me. After these two occasions on my mission I started to realize that you guys had already learned all this stuff a long time ago and were applying as you raised us. Now I have a reinforced knowledge of why its important to show love after giving correction and to help others recognize the spirit. I learned it on my mission, but I learned it first in the home. Thanks mom and dad!
Ok looks like my time is up, H.A.G.S.!
