Can't young men wear ties anymore? Can't my Corrola look better than yours? Can't my planner fall out on the floor? Can I have an investigator with out no concerns, come to see me and ask to learn, feeling the spirit start to burn, really does it matter long as I return?
Ok, maybe only Rob and John will get that one but oh, well. We are starting to see miracles here in Pearl City. E. Naulu and I have been together for so long now we are working like a well oiled machine, I just feels like being with Rob.
We Found 5 new investigators last week. A Mexican family that lives on the military Peninsula. The daughter was a referral from the Laie Visitors Center. But instead of just teaching her we started teaching her whole family. They are all super nice and make us feel like family. The 15 year old son came to our basket ball tournament on Saturday and then he and his 13 yr old sister came to Church on Sunday. The Youth in the ward did a great Job of fellow shipping them so after church the Y.M.'s Pres took them to his house for a Youth fireside. Then our young mens pres. drove them home and he got to meet the mom and the dad too. The 16 yr. old boy was in a mormon boy scouts troop when they lived in georgia, he wants to get back into it now. We teach them again on friday and we will invite all five of them to be baptized. Transfers is on the 8th, I'm pretty sure I'm leaving but we'll see.
We taught our Land lord Mike Todd again for the 2nd time yesterday. We were planning on teaching lesson 2 but he said I already had the salvation one with the three planets and stuff, teach me something else. So I decided to teach lesson 3 (the gospel of Jesus Christ) and had a revelation to use oreo cookies as the 5 steps (faith, repentance, baptism, gift of the holy ghost, and ETTE) to make it more visual, plus mike really likes food. So we started teaching and we only got through the first step (faith) and we just started talking and asking questions and teaching towards his needs. Then our fellow shipper bro. Lani (75) starts talking and once he starts he doesn't stop. He starts telling all these stories about his mission. Part of me is saying, ok, lets get back to the lesson, until I realized that Mike was soaking it all in. When bro. Lani was finally done mike said that that answered a lot of his questions and then he even shared an experience about how the spirit prompted him to go home from a party when he was living in Germany and as soon as he got home his dad called and told him his grandma had passed away and needed to schedule the next flight home. Mike isn't the type that normally opens up to us like that and he even admitted that he gets caught up so much in worldly things like work and watching football that he rarely thinks about spiritual things like this. But because of that experience he said he Knew that God lives. He wont come to church yet but we had him read 2 Nephi 9. I read it this morning for personal study and It is one of the most powerful discourses on the plan of salvation found in the book of Mormon. Jacob isn't scared to say it like it is.
We held the 3rd (now monthly) 3 on 3 Palisades basketball tournament on Saturday and palisades elementary school. It was the biggest one yet with 18 teams as well as parents and friends who came to watch. The crazy part is that we don't even have to invite anyone anymore, we just tell the guys in the ward and the tons of random people show up! It is finally starting to yield visible results, we always do a sign in sheet so we get the name address and phone # of all the guys that come. Then we go contact them during the next week. This time I was talking to a kid after the tournament and he said he used to live in Utah(that city across from Utah lake, I don't remember the name we beat their football team like 50 to 0). He said that he wasn't a member but used to go to church all the time over there. I asked him if he'd ever been here and he said he didn't know where to go.
anyways my times running out.
