Good morning and Aloha,
I'm grateful we have email so I can keep in contact with all of you. Mom, Dad, Lisa, Mike, Christian, Madison, Chase, Carson, Tucker, Easton, Andrea, Blake, Audrey, Blake Jr., Anna, Max, Jack, Jill, Valerie, Eric, Andrew, Sarah, Emily, Kristin, Pete, Sydney, Grace, John, Sierra, Kyler, Elliah, and Rob, I love you all and wish I could give each of you a big hug. Stobbes, Mark, and anyone else who may read this, I miss you too and thank you for all the support. Sis. Aldous, thanks for Travis' Email, It's good to hear about my buddy every once in a while. My companion, E. Gray is going home this week and I will be getting a new companion. I'm Jealous he gets to see all his family this weekend, he has six cute little nephews and neices. E. Gray was a wonderful companion I learned alot from him, he will be flying home with my old companion E. Naulu this Thursday night.
This week we went to Sis. Bernadez house to ask her if her step daughter had gotten permission from her father to take the lessons. Sis. Bernadez is a returning less active member in our ward. She calls us with random questions all the time like "does god have parents" and "who wrote the living Christ". She told us her step daughter Malie did not ask her dad yet and she was starting to give up on her. Before we left she asked if we needed any thing (groceries, etc.), we said we didn't so she told us to call her if we needed anything. That night we just got money for dinner so we went to pizza hut and got a big new yorker. Just as E. gray and I were settling down to eat pizza and watch the District (the missionary training dvd) I realized we were running low on milk. You can't eat pizza without milk! So I was like "I know! I'll call sis. Bernadez and ask her to buy us some". So I called her and she said "Elders! How did you know to call?" "what?" I said. She said "did you know we were just talking about you?". She explained her step daughter Malie had come home from school that day and just started asking her all these questions. She said she couldn't answer them all so they wrote them down on a piece of paper, she asked if we could come over and answer some of her questions. We told her we were eating dinner but maybe we could meet up at the church (next door to our house) and answer her questions in about half an hour. She agreed and said she would go buy us a gallon of milk. So we met up at the church and found an empty room. Right as we walked in, a bunch of people were getting out of a meeting and Pres. Stennett (1st counselor in the stake pres. who happens to be a member of our ward) walked into the room we were in and asked if he could join us. We started with a prayer and then they pulled out their list and Sis. Bernadez started asking the questions. The first question was "why are there so many churches on the earth?" I told her that Joseph Smith had the same question. As they continued to ask the questions it got more and more cofortable and Malie started asking the questions instead of her mom and even asked some questions that they hadn't written down. E. Gray, President Stennett, and I kind of switched off answering and you could feel the spirit very strong as each question was answered in beautiful simplicity. It was a miracle that President Stennett just happened to be there because he has an amazing knowledge of the scriptures and I even learned a few things as he spoke. He quoted about 10 scriptures with out even looking them up. During the course of us answering her questions we basically taught her the restoration, the plan of salvation, the gospel of Jesus Christ, and some of the commandments. It felt like the temple as the room was just filled with pure intelligence. At the climax of the spirit, all of her questions were answered and I offered a closing prayer thanking the lord for the manifestation of the Holy Ghost. They left and we walked outside and talked to President Stennet for a while. As he started to walk to his car and we started to walk to the pad we got a call from sister Bernadez. She told us Malie wanted to get baptized.
We are seeing a lot of success in our area right now. Sam Long (maddison's mom) got baptized this weekend and I got to confirm her in sacrament meeting. They are such and amazing family. Despite the success it seems that each investigator has some huge stubbling block before he or she can get baptized. For some of them it's smoking, some need to wait longer because they are on probation because they broke the law in the past, some don't come to church, some are too shy to come to classes and make friends with the members, some have parents or step parents who are opposed, and some get anti Mormon materials from their friends and neighbors. We pray for our investigators every morning that they will be able to overcome these things. Our mission goal right now is to get 1000 baptisms in the year of 2010, this hasn't happened since '92 (the year that Eric served over here). We hope to make a contribution to that goal here in Kauai.
Mom, to answer some of your questions, No, I'm not getting transferred, I'm staying here in Lihue Kauai and will probably be here until I die. No, I did not lose my camera, I lost the battery charger and asked if you could order a replacement off the internet or something so I can keep sending you beautiful pictures of Hawaii. Yes, I did send an email last week did you not get it?
Also I was wondering if you could send me Grandpa Rookhuyzen's address so I can write him. Please tell him that his grandson Matt in Hawaii wishes him happy birthday. Also Happy Birthday to Eric on the 14th and Travis on the 21st and Easton on the 11th.
Rob, I was just wondering, how much do you weigh? What do you do for work out in the morning? What do you usually eat for breakfast?
Just wanted you all to know that everything is wonderful here in Hawaii!
Love,
Elder Prina
Ps: Some tourists came to our ward yesterday who knew Peter Prina, he said Peter was his branch president in Albaquirkie.
